But you know, just because I didn't think that particular situation was right for an isolation play, I don't think I meant that it was NEVER right in a cash game. In fact, like everything in poker, it depends.

But honestly, I'm not really sure that a raise in the hand described in this post would have been a great play either....just that I should have considered it at the time. I thought about it when writing the post, but you know, then it was too late.

The other thing to keep in mind, FD....I'm not a very good player.Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05767080296489122846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8283462864090963789.post-49045255449334470342016-05-22T00:30:26.976-07:002016-05-22T00:30:26.976-07:00I am taking it from your reply to PMs comment that...I am taking it from your reply to PMs comment that you feel 4 betting to isolate would have been a proper maneuver. I am somewhat confused Rob because I had commented on one of your posts about isolating and you told me at the time that it was more of a tournament play and not a cash game play but now you seem to feel that that might have been a good idea after all. Have you altered your views about isolating in cash games??FlushhDrawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01042309116535213376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8283462864090963789.post-32097272664001045062016-05-20T07:11:49.951-07:002016-05-20T07:11:49.951-07:00You are right PM, when I was reviewing this to wri...You are right PM, when I was reviewing this to write the post, it occurred to me re-raising would have been a good idea. But I'm pretty sure at the time, it didn't really occur to me. I recalled wondering if there was any point in even calling. The limp/re-raise from an older guy screams AA (KK was actually a surprise to me) and I figured I was therefore setmining without the right odds, since there were no implied odds from him.

And then I had Jacks, so did I really want to four -bet with that? Not usually. I guess I wasn't thinking it through properly.

Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05767080296489122846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8283462864090963789.post-41077091902634665942016-05-20T06:49:00.099-07:002016-05-20T06:49:00.099-07:00Quick rundown for one hand: "I made it $12. ...Quick rundown for one hand: "I made it $12. The guy on my left called, it folded to the limper, an older gentleman from Houston. He announced “all-in.” But he only had $28 total."

You're playing 1/2 or 1/3 meaning you raised $9-10. The 3bet is a raise of more than $9-10, meaning that you could re-open action. Why not 4bet it to trap the limper's dead money and isolate?

Forget about results-oriented play where it would have made no difference (i.e. shover had KK). From my perspective after reading this hand, you had a limper who called your $12 raise and with your call, gave good odds to call another raise 3-way (call $16 to win $84).

Curious to know what your thoughts were. The Poker Meisterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18289059101454598371noreply@blogger.com
