Vegas Poker Room Football Promos (Oct. Ante Up Column)

This is my October column for Ante-Up, but wait....don't ignore it just yet.  As I did last year, the column for October is mostly dedicated to the football promos in Vegas for the rest of the Football season.  So you may actually want to read this, or save it if you are in Vegas or are planning a trip before season is over.

As with last year, I've added a few rooms that I didn't have info for when I sent the column in, so there's bonus material in this post that you won't find in the column as it appears on the Ante Up site (here).

  1. I can see the Golden Nugget poker room passing on any football promos but how come Binion's did not put any promos in effect for the NFL season????

    1. GN started a bad beat. If they aren't doing football promos (which I'd be surprised), that may be why?

    2. @Lester: Binion's recently closed their main poker room and moved into the pit--4 tables. And honestly, they barely get any cash games, so I don't think there would be any point to a football promo. They are basically just run tournaments now. Very sad.

@Michelle--Golden Nugget hasn't run a football promo for the past few years, at least. They obviously don't feel the need to do so.

  2. DAMMIT ANYHOW! While not a wildly entertaining venue for poker (except for that sweet weekend of October 10th, 2010 for that quad tens for $10K promo) I loved that poker room they ran cash games in. To now hear they have 4 pathetic tables out in the pit saddens me! I will have to forever hold on to my memory of hitting a straight hearts flush HHJ of $550 playing $2-4 limit with a table full of tourists on a Sunday afternoon. When I tipped the dealer ten redbirds the whole table gave me a round of applause! Crapski...

    1. Well, at least you have some great memories.

The room has been struggling to get cash games going for years now, and when Paul, who was basically running the room, left for Aria, I think that sort of sealed it's fate.

They are keeping the old poker room which they will use for the Saturday tournaments I play, and also for any special events they have. I think their summer Binion's classic drew good crowds. But cash games are just very tough for them.

    2. I always liked the Binion's deepstake Saturday Tournaments. Though I never did well in them. I even staked TBC in one and he did manage to outlast me but not make it anywhere near the final table. I guess its a good thing I also really like the Golden Nugget poker room and that it is still operating. But... the poker player discount you used to get at the Four Queens is likely gone. That used to be good for $25 weekday and $50 weekend nights. Guess I will have to remember those as my good old days of Fremont St. Poker!

    3. Golden Nugget poker room is still going strong. Very busy room and now, they are the only game downtown.
